A Strategy for Studying Epigenetic Diversity in Natural Populations: Proof of Concept in Poplar and Oak

Abstract

We propose a cost-effective strategy for studying DNA methylation variation in natural populations, combining whole-genome bisulfite sequencing (WGBS) on a genotype subset to identify highly variable regions with targeted sequencing capture bisulfite (SeqCapBis) at the population scale. The strategy was validated as a proof of concept on natural populations of two forest species, Populus nigra and Quercus petraea.
